The Thailand and Philippine schedules were already fulfilled. In Thailand, Bruno was seen exploring shops and local food places. Mars was all out in trying native delicacies. The concert in Manila was also a huge success. Filipinos know Bruno is half-Fil, born to a full-Filipino blooded mother, Bernadette Hernandez. Filipinos love Bruno Mars so much because he is a ‘kababayan’ (countryman) and he is undeniably a gifted musical artist.

For the concert in Manila, Bruno sang sixteen songs during his set. Filipinos enjoyed every performance, and was supportive of Bruno’s every rendition. The venue at Mall of Asia Arena was filled; it was already standing room only. Tickets have actually sold out weeks ago but Filipinos kept buying even though it meant standing the whole night. Well, everyone was up on its feet anyway. It’s hard to sit down with such energetic and emotionally packed performances from Bruno and his crew.

Bruno covered the following songs: ‘Just the Way You Are’, ‘MoonShine’, ‘Natalie’, ‘Treasure’. ‘Billionaire’ (mash-up), ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’. He showcased his Motown and R&B style with a mash-up of ‘Candy Rain’ (by Soul for Real) and ‘Pony’ (by Ginuwine) with ‘Our First Time’ (his song from album ‘Doo-Woops & Hooligans’).

He also rendered his original version of ‘Marry You’ and even said ’Hey Manila, I think I wanna marry you! Filo fans in the audience of course were very much delighted. He invited the crowd to sing with him, acknowledging that Filipinos are known for being singers and karaoke singers.

It was clear that night that Bruno Mars is a special music idol favorite in the Philippines. Bruno Mars also states that performing in the Philippines is special for him. His roots are Filipino and performing in front of ‘his own’ makes his renditions more special and deeper in meaning.

Comments Off on Classy Customized Shoes by Gwen Stefani

Singer Gwen Stefani has specialized a line of shoes that promises to deliver on comfort, as well as style but falls within a budget. Being heavily pregnant with her 3rd child, she partnered with ShoeDazzle on her new accessories line. The line include handbags, too.

Never wanting to give up her wild style, even with the upcoming arrival of her new baby, she has refused to let go her glamorous collection of footwear. She said in an interview: ‘The big challenge is to get a shoe to look as sexy and be at comfortable height…and I think we did that with the sandals.”

Following the footsteps of some celebrity fashion designers, like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Moss, to endorse cut price lines nowadays, the “gx” collection comes almost as a bargain compared to her L.A.M.B bags and shoes, some of which sells up to $500. Priced in between $70 to $111 the “gx” by Gwen Stefani collection comes with 7 handbags and a variety of 24 footwear styles reflecting the ‘punk, pop, street and tribal’ elements of Stefani’s style that has proven to be so popular with fashion fans.

Stefani admitted that designing accessories hasn’t been an easy thing to do , ‘To see a sketch then to try to visualize what it’s going to end up being and how it’s going to work on the foot, it’s not an easy project.’ As self-confessed ‘tomboy’ and not too much of a bag lady by nature, Stefani confessed that she did not even start wearing handbags ’til her mid-30s, and said that the handbags from her “gx” collection are more casual than the  “gx” shoes, and said, ‘I love a softer bag that almost has a backpack feel.’

Not a newbie to the game — Stefani first broke into fashion in 2002, designing accessories in partnership with LeSportsac, and then launched her own brand L.A.M.B in 2004 –  she seems to be getting the pretty hang of it. ‘I know what I’m doing more now,’ she said in an interview

Busy balancing a growing family, specializing bag and shoes are not the only fashion projects Stefani currently has up her sleeve.

Katy Perry Talks About Costumes

Comments Off on Katy Perry Talks About Costumes

Katy Perry is on the February 2014 cover of GQ magazine! Expect cool outfits and poses from the pop star. Her clothing always stirs up a lot of hype, soliciting comments and opinions everywhere. Check out more katy perry costume here.

The GQ mag interview addressed a particular costume Katy Perry wore at a performance at the past AMA last November, a geisha costume. Perry said her every intention was to pay homage to the country, there was no wrong or negative motivation whatsoever. She said she loves Japanese culture and was caught by surprise at the controversy the chosen costume caused. For her, Geishas are all about love and loving unconditionally; to her, the AMA performance paid tribute to Japan and the beauty of its place and culture.

Many accused her of being racist and she received the ire of social network active folks. People took to Twitter and Facebook commenting how ignorant she was and insensitive. Others felt insulted because her wardrobe wasn’t really country specific, rather, it was a mix and match Japanese-Chinese culture.  Indeed, the wardrobe was quite confusing. Kimonos never expose the chests, neither the sides of the legs. However, the rest of the wardrobe and cosmetic enhancement were true to Japanese Kimono attire.

People should hold their tongues for a sec and give Katy Perry a chance.  She wore an outfit for a performance, and she has every liberty to make changes to her wardrobe as she sees fit. Side slits definitely allow for better movement during performance, and with the chest exposure, well, maybe she was just staying true to her kind of clothing, one that breezes air in thru the chest.

Folks ought to be reminded that Katy Perry works for the entertainment industry. She is an artist, very creative and innovative.  It might be a serious issue if she were some official, or some known representative of Japan or of its culture, but she was there at the AMA as an artist, to perform, to inspire, and to invoke creativity among those who were present. With a flawless performance, she may have accomplished all that.

If you like her as a performer then don’t let any ‘unnecessaries’ stop you from enjoying her performances. Just go see her perform.  Katy Perry Zone  has lots of info on the pop star, tours and all; check it out.

Troubled Pop Singers and Their Influence to Teens and Tweens!

March 2, 2014

Comments Off on Troubled Pop Singers and Their Influence to Teens and Tweens!

1380065995_miley-cyrus-justin-bieber-zoomThe problem in social media is that it has a tendency to embellish the odd. Controversial issues are viral. Serial killers become famous. Rape victims become instant movie icons. The actress with the drug problem is more talked about than the actress who has her head on straight. The social badass kid gets more attention than the kid who is an achiever. There are always exceptions to this tendency though, but most of the time the person who stands out more than others, are the ones who manufacture drama. Sad truth is, if a certain star does something good, it takes a troop of PR professionals to put it into the mainstream media. But if that star gets into trouble, or if something tragic happens, it would be all over the celebrity gossip sites in a matter of minutes (or seconds, thanks to Twitter and Instagram.) More advertisement means more people buying it. The more it’s being talked about the more it becomes famous. And famous is what’s “in” and our young ones think it’s all acceptable. It’s because they are remarkably different, and so as our beloved pop stars.

Almost every young pop singers or bands nowadays are famous for dressing provocatively and singing lyrics that convey adult subjects like love, sex and violence. It’s somehow a big issue for an adult to behave in this manner, but is it okay for teens and tweens? Interview any teen pop singer and they will claim they are empowering young people by setting an example to them that they can be anything and do anything. There is completely nothing wrong about encouraging the youth about loving and being themselves. Pop artists have all the means to influence their followers. But, are they really helping them?

Let’s take Miley Cyrus as an example, real name Destiny Hope Cyrus. She is known as the lead role in the famous Disney Channel TV series Hannah Montana. She started as a sweet, wholesome young actress and was idolized by many young kids like her. She maintained a decent career all throughout her teenage years. Until recently, when she turned 21, not much of a rebellious age, she generated controversy in a sexually explicit public image while promoting her fourth album Bangerz (2013). In the album there’s “We Can’t Stop”, where she dressed herself as a flirty teddy bear as if to show her transition from wholesome to sensual. Also there’s “Wrecking Ball” where she rides a wrecking ball naked like a carousel. Her music videos became instantly viral because it’s sexually provocative, totally different from the Miley Cyrus they used to know. Is it because of her breakup with Liam Hemsworth that she decided to let loose? However, most of her fans still follow her absurd ways.

Then here comes Justin Bieber who recently had been in a double legal trouble. Last January 23 early this year, he was arrested for drag racing with R&B singer Khalil Sharieff, after police spotted them racing two luxury cars on a residential street at 4.09 AM local time, with two other vehicles who are seems to be used to hunk off the area. He was then charged by Miami Beach police for driving under the influence, resisting arrest without violence and driving with an expired Georgia driver’s license. He once again spiced things up a bit by smiling on his first ever mug shot in Miami-Dade County jail. After being released he was then faced with an assault charge in his hometown, Canada. He admits that he has been smoking a ton of pot constantly and taking prescription drugs. He ignores his mother’s plea to go to rehab, says he doesn’t need it.

Sadly, but these pop singers are handing over a negative idea that the young should embrace misery as a way to be different. They are showing examples of how young women should exploit their sexuality even if it results in being a pedophile’s wet dream or a victim of rape. They demonstrate to young men that it’s okay to get intoxicated by alcohol, and drugs. Swearing and assaulting people is just a norm. Most of their songs broadcast too much kissing, nudity and lust that make the listeners to think that sex is like a candy freely given to every fling. Hence, children sing along as 50 Cent sings “Candy Shop”. A song that is so innocent looking and is catchy to the kids they will think the song is just all about that. (It talks about sex by the way.)  Many other songs like Justin Timberlake’s “Strawberry Bubblegum, John Mayer’s “Your Body is a Wonderland” and more other singers use candy words and children’s story-related lyrics to attract those innocent young viewers/ listeners.

They are passing on a large influence to everyone, especially to the young. Did you know? Study shows that kids as young as 5 years old are mimicking the provocative behavior of inadequately dressed pop stars? They learn to pout and thrust by watching music videos. At school prom, there were junior primary school students who were also dancing “exotically” in an attempt to copy their music idols – including Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Kylie Minogue. They commit into relationship flings because Taylor Swift does very good in making love songs about her past relationships. For the innocent viewers, it’s acceptable and cool to stick out your tongue to everything because Miley Cyrus does it and she’s famous. For the guys, they think its okay to wave a middle finger to everyone who pisses them off because that’s how Justin Bieber does to his annoying paparazzi.

These pop stars may be setting a bad influence more than they are empowering the youth. Thinking of it in a different perspective though, as wise citizens and mentors of the future generation, we should look at these young troubled pop stars as a big screen picture of how the youth will be if they continue making wrong decisions. Let them realize the right and the wrong. Let them know that some people walk down the paths forged by others, just to try them on for size, and some discard them for a trail they blaze on their own. Encourage them to be remarkably different, in a good manner.
