Imagine Dragons is Into Sports!

Imagine Dragons is an alternative rock band recently entering the public music scene in 2012 with its first official release of the album ‘Night Visions’. With the release of the group’s debut album came continual success, singles were topping the charts and Imagine Dragons and their song titles have started becoming a common household topic, most especially among teens.

rock-bandIn less than three years, the band has risen to the ranks of big-time pop rock bands. On radio, they dominate the Top 40 rankings, live appearances were being scheduled on air and in various festival and tour circuits. Indeed, band members have proven that they do belong to the music world. From the time ‘Night Visions’ came out, life has never been the same for the quartet. Engagements left and right occupy them, in fact, the group has been on tour from last year. If you haven’t watched them in concert yet, check http://www.musotickets.com/imagine-dragons-concert-tickets-tour-dates/ for a date and venue near you.

It’s interesting that besides talk of music, group members can talk sports as well. Imagine Dragons talks with Radio.com recently and stuff about sports came out. Daniel Platzman, drummer for the band, confesses that he is a fan of Steph Curry, the player for Golden State Warriors. Daniel thinks if there is a song of theirs that fits Steph and the team, it would be ‘Underdog’. He is mesmerized with how Steph plays and with how he can navigate through blockages and land a sure shot.

NBA talks would always include LeBron James, he is a bona fide icon in the world of basketball. Imagine Dragons were happy and honored to hear that LeBron’s pre-game prep is to listen to the band’s hit song ‘Radioactive’. “That was really cool. Im a big fan of LeBron”, Dan comments, mentioning that he and his high school buddies watched LeBron’s documentary back then.

Wayne Sermon, the band’s guitarist, also talked about baseball, about loving the sport, and about how he roots for the Cubs to someday win the World Series. Wayne recalled how the band was given the first pitch of the game last year at Chicago’s Cubs, Wrigley Field. ‘It was exciting, it was a near disaster, but it went okay’, he said.

Comments Off on Caring for Your Voice

Caring for Your Voice

Our voices are as unique as our fingerprints. That’s why it is important to take care of it. Professional singers, on the other hand, are making a living with their voices. So they have to take great care of their source of living. For example, they avoid eating too much of dairy products, drink a lot of water, avoid alcohol, and other caffeinated drinks, and lastly, they try not to smoke.

Dairy products are harder to digest and as a result the body will produce more mucus. This mucus enters the vocal chords and can negatively affect a singer’s voice. The extra phlegm will irritate the throat causing the singer to cough and sneeze – which can cause trauma to the vocal cords, too. In fact, singers are usually commanded to swallow their phlegm rather than to clear their throats.

A professional singer should drink more than eight glasses of water everyday. (More than the average water intake of a non-singer) She should not drink hot water. Hot water causes the blood vessels in the throat to swell, which will negatively affect her vocal chords. In the same way singers should avoid cold water as well. When a singer drinks cold water, blood vessels contract and the throat becomes dry. Lukewarm is the most appropriate water temperature for the singers. It is extremely important to intake clean water whether you are a singer or not.

It’s vital that a singer drinks plenty of water. Drinking a lot of water keeps the body hydrated and the vocal cords lubricated. These lessen the amount of friction in a singer’s vocal cords and ward it off from inflammation. How can we tell if we are drinking enough water? Just follow the professional advice to “pee pale”. Check your urine;

  • If it’s pale yellow, congratulations! You are well hydrated
  • If it’s dark yellow and concentrated, it’s time to reach for the water bottle.

Steaming or breathing humidified air also rehydrates the vocal cords from the outside. It can be useful for singers if their throat feels tired or sore after a performance, when they have been doing a lot of singing. (Especially during concerts, they automatically breathe through their mouth and that dries out the vocal cords.)

7 Artists That Must Be In Your Spring 2014 Playlist

It is spring break and most likely you are spending your vacation with your friends on the other side of the country. But for many who stay at home and get a part-time job like mowing services at http://www.puremowers.com/, Spring can be very boring. However, there are things you can do to make your Spring break more exciting. One is by updating your playlist so that you can listen to great songs while you are doing your task. In this post, we will talk about the artists you can follow during your spring break.

  • Chance the Rapper. For fans of Kanye West and hip-hop music, you might find Chancellor Bennett a great addition to your Spring playlist.
  • Diane Birch. Try getting her Speak a Little Louder album and be amazed by Diane’s voice which sounds like that of Stevie Nicks. Her songs are mostly soulful but rebellious at the same time.
  • Kelela. Also known as Solange Knowles, you need her songs on your playlists because believe me or not you will need some R&B while you are mowing someone else’s lawn or yard.
  • Drowners. If you want some retro vibe during your Spring break, then might as well try listening to the band Drowners. Their music is very playful and comes with a garage-rock sensibility.
  • Caitlin Rose. More than just a country singer, Caitlin’s songs come with an indie rocker’s vibe which makes them unique. Plus, many of her songs are written with the help of her mother, Liz Rose, who wrote dozens of hit songs for Taylor Swift.
  • Banks. Listening to Banks’ music this Spring can give you so much inspiration. Her vocals shift from fragile to powerful at some of her songs making her an ultimate breakout artist during this Spring season. Plus, she has a really approachable persona – she posted her number on her Facebook page just so eager fans can contact her if they want to.

Mausi. Their songs can make you dance because of its disco touch. Thus, adding their music to your Spring playlist is a good move especially if you are looking for something that can keep you up from a boring mowing job.

Comments Off on Concert in the Grass

Concert in the Grass

Avid fans of music or musicians themselves would want to keep themselves occupied especially during the school vacations. Organizing a local concert is one thing that would both quench their thirst for music as well as be an income generating activity for them. Parks as a location is a very inexpensive venue to host these concerts and they are not difficult to manage.

Ask Permission

Always remember to ask permission from your local government to allow you to have concert in the park. Submit a very convincing written letter to them stating your purpose and how the community would benefit from this activity. Follow it up every now and then since these people have too much on their plates.

Invite Artists

Of course, for it to be a success you have to invite indie artists who are willing to play for free or just a small amount as long as their band would get recognition. The school is one place to look for them since most of them are just garage bands and would like to play for a crowd. You can also invite relatively famous bands from other places through social media and word of mouth.

Test the Waters

Before you charge your customers, organize a one free session on a Saturday night. Make sure that it is well advertised and the concept would be just free-flow with people coming and going, some picnicking on the grass. This is for people to know how good it is to go outside with family and friends and listen to evening music.

Have a Bit of Everything

For the song selection, make it a relaxing time for your audience. Make sure that you have songs for the younger generations as well as the older ones. Do not overflow them with all metal or all rap songs as this will be an avenue for them to bond and you would want them to come back.

Other Resources

Aside from the concert itself, you can have friends sell stuff on booths and income generating activity. For your potty needs, you can access http://www.topsepticservice.com/ for information on how to setup your toilet, you can also use this as another fund raiser by asking for minimum payment when people need to use it.

If you see that people enjoy the music, the company and environment, start charging them the bare minimum just so you could cover your expenses.

Comments Off on Personalize Your Home Recording Studio

Personalize Your Home Recording Studio

As an artist you want everything that surrounds you to be statements of your brand of art. Musicians have a world of symphonies inside them that needs the right environment to be channeled. Just look at Googleplex; the work environment is conducive to out-of-the-box thinking and therefore can lead to innovative ideas.

Here are some tips you can keep in mind in designing your home recording studio to the best it can be:

Stay True to Your Personality

If you are a metal head you won’t place cute little pink cushions at the corner of your room. If you’re into classic music you won’t hang Justin Bieber posters on your wall. This is not to be stereotypical; the point is your studio should say a lot about your personality. This can inspire you with more ideas and get you into that zone of limitless musical genius. Perhaps you can hang an artwork that inspires you or a portrait of an artist that most motivate you.

Combine Functionality with Aesthetics

So you purchased studio equipment like monitors, MIDI controllers, headphones, microphones, cables, etc. Assemble these equipment in a convenient and aesthetically-pleasing way. Place them in strategic locations that will allow you to move around easily while keeping it all organized. Maybe you can get a table with a bit of character or use acoustic treatments that will also function as designs.

Details are Everything

Even the littlest details can make the difference. Those wood furniture legs  or wall hangings can set the mood of your studio. Choose carefully the accents you put in your room like the color and design of wall painting, chair, table, shelves, cornerfill cubes, and even the carpet.

Go for the Cheap

Setting up a home studio can be a royal pain in the pocket, but by luck you can get cheap deals for tables, chairs and other whatnots if you know where to look. You can get a nice, comfortable work table for under $100 in eBay and other discount stores. Look out for sales and secondhand stores. Or, even better, you can just reuse some of your existing furniture.

Katy Perry Talks About Costumes

Katy Perry is on the February 2014 cover of GQ magazine! Expect cool outfits and poses from the pop star. Her clothing always stirs up a lot of hype, soliciting comments and opinions everywhere. Check out more katy perry costume here.

The GQ mag interview addressed a particular costume Katy Perry wore at a performance at the past AMA last November, a geisha costume. Perry said her every intention was to pay homage to the country, there was no wrong or negative motivation whatsoever. She said she loves Japanese culture and was caught by surprise at the controversy the chosen costume caused. For her, Geishas are all about love and loving unconditionally; to her, the AMA performance paid tribute to Japan and the beauty of its place and culture.

Many accused her of being racist and she received the ire of social network active folks. People took to Twitter and Facebook commenting how ignorant she was and insensitive. Others felt insulted because her wardrobe wasn’t really country specific, rather, it was a mix and match Japanese-Chinese culture.  Indeed, the wardrobe was quite confusing. Kimonos never expose the chests, neither the sides of the legs. However, the rest of the wardrobe and cosmetic enhancement were true to Japanese Kimono attire.

People should hold their tongues for a sec and give Katy Perry a chance.  She wore an outfit for a performance, and she has every liberty to make changes to her wardrobe as she sees fit. Side slits definitely allow for better movement during performance, and with the chest exposure, well, maybe she was just staying true to her kind of clothing, one that breezes air in thru the chest.

Folks ought to be reminded that Katy Perry works for the entertainment industry. She is an artist, very creative and innovative.  It might be a serious issue if she were some official, or some known representative of Japan or of its culture, but she was there at the AMA as an artist, to perform, to inspire, and to invoke creativity among those who were present. With a flawless performance, she may have accomplished all that.

If you like her as a performer then don’t let any ‘unnecessaries’ stop you from enjoying her performances. Just go see her perform.  Katy Perry Zone  has lots of info on the pop star, tours and all; check it out.
